Five Types of Flooring For A Magnificent Home

Posted on

The type of floor in a home has a very heavy impact on its' value. The following are some floor types and rooms in a home that each type is best suitable.

Laminate flooring

Laminates come in different types. They could either come as planks or tiles. They can resemble real wood but they are not. Basically, the top most layer is a coating made of plastic that is applied above a photograph. The technology used is photorealism making it difficult differentiating it from real wood.  It is a material that lasts really long. It rarely fades and dead set against stains and scratches. That makes it pet friendly as the pets can neither stain nor scratch it. It is also very easy to clean. Laminate is suitable for areas in a home with traffic like the foyer or rooms with multiple activities. However, since they should not get wet, laminates are not suitable for bathrooms, kitchens and laundry rooms. Stagnant water ruins this type of floor leading to replacement because they cannot be refinished.

Hardwood flooring

Hardwood is popular for its natural beauty and durability. It comes as planks or strips. Solid wood can easily be refinished and is very easy to clean and maintain as it only requires vacuuming. Hardwoods are best put in a living room; this is to protect the wood as high traffic could easily ruin it. This type of flooring is classic and makes a home look good and stylish.

Tile flooring

Ceramic tiles are very convenient because they are water and scratch resistant. This makes them very durable. Tiles come in a variety of materials such as slate, porcelain, granite, travertine and marble. Since they are meant for water places and are easy to clean, they are suitable for bathrooms, kitchens and dining areas where spilling of food and drinks is common. Care should however be taken as dropping heavy stuff on them could lead to cracking.

Carpet flooring

Carpets generally give a soft look to a room. They are easy to install and can be placed over uneven sub floors. They require occasional steaming to get rid of hidden dirt. The best location for carpets is the bedroom since there is low traffic in there. That reduces the dirt that is usually trapped in and also makes the room feel cosy.

Vinyl flooring

Vinyl tiles just like carpets are slightly soft underfoot. This type of flooring contains a wear layer on top that aids in scratch and stain resistance. It is a lovely choice for bathrooms and kitchens due to warm it adds and for a laundry room as well to shield lots of sound coming from the machines.

Flooring has never been easier. You can now feel comfortable in your safe haven from the choices you make of the type of floor for every single room.
